On my first flight a month ago, I had engine oil overheating and made a
hasty precautionary landing with resulting nose gear damage. Finally got
the gear fixed. Today I finished the Condition Inspection. I found an item
while looking into the interior of the SCAT tube that gets rid of the hot
air from the oil cooler. From the outside at the clamp everything looked
fine. Things are somewhat crowded on the firewall at the heat box. This
SCAT tube runs a straight line nearly from the top of the firewall to the
bottom to dump the hot air out the bottom of the cowl. The edge of the SCAT
tube was turned in at the attachment point on the heat box. The turned in
portion, about 16 inches from the exit end, was blocking about half the
2-inch fitting. So, fixed that without too much fuss. That may be the cure
for the oil over heat problem. Next flight in a week or so will see.
