-----------Actual story clipped-----------------

Good write up Joe. ?I was there many years ago (1991). ?Blew up an engine in
the mountains at night (in a Stinson Voyager). ?That was a long adrenal rush
while trying to nurse enough life out of a failing engine to extend my glide 8
miles to the nearest airport. ?I made it with about 150' of altitude to spare.
?It's not something I ever want to repeat. ?It is also one of the reasons I
became such a fanatic about what engines I will and what engines I won't fly
behind and one of the reasons I got my A&P and have built every aircraft engine
I have flown behind since. ?One of the things I learned over the years is that
very few engines are assembled properly. ?Actually, the number of mistakes I
find inside of aircraft engines built by what one would assume to be competent
A&Ps and engine shops is appauling. ?
