Hi everyone, Yesterday I was doing a routine copyright + license check on kdenetwork for the debian packages and I've found two license issues with libkopete that may need to be fixed for future releases. There is no urgent issue or violation (afaict), I just want to make you aware of them...
1) in COPYING, it is claimed that libkopete is available under the terms of the LGPL v2 or later. However, numerous files in libkopete say they are licensed under GPL v2 or later in their header. Afaik GPL-only files cannot be distributed under the LGPL, so libkopete ends up being distributed as GPL v2 or later. 2) in libkopete/avdevice/ there are 4 files, which were added recently: - kopete/libkopete/avdevice/dummyvideodevice.cpp - kopete/libkopete/avdevice/dummyvideodevice.h - kopete/libkopete/avdevice/videodevicevector.cpp - kopete/libkopete/avdevice/videodevicevector.h which are under the GPL v3 or later. I've been told that GPL v3 is not allowed in kde code without the v2 option. I am not sure if this is true or if it applies for kopete, but the sure thing is that the kopete_videodevice library has to be distributed under GPL v3 or later, which makes things a bit complicated... For a complete report on licensing information you can consult: http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg- kde/branches/kde4.2/packages/kdenetwork/debian/copyright?op=file&rev=0&sc=0 Regards, George _______________________________________________ kopete-devel mailing list kopete-devel@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kopete-devel
