when I tried to fix this, I was told it was a 'feature', iirc. they
didn't want smileys in usernames in chatwindows, even though the
usernames in the contactlist have them.
the removal of smileys in chatwindow usernames can make things even
more inconsistent sometimes, 'cause it's not perfect, especially when
a user changes their name.
