Hi Ellis,

If you mean exporting bibs and holdings from Voyager and importing them to Koha, you can do that but the current Koha versions will treat all the records as bibliographic, which isn't very useful, and it would also lose all the links between bibs and holdings.

You could use Michael's utility to move the relevant holdings fields to the bib records. This would work fine unless you have more verbose MFHDs as there's no way to say in the bib record that fields coming from a single MFHD belong together. E.g. if you have multiple holdings with 852 and 856 fields, there's no way to indicate which ones go together. That's why I implemented the not-yet-accepted support for proper holding records in Koha.

Ere

Hi Ere,

Many thanks for the useful info. As an alternative, if I do a full Marc export
using https://rocky.uta.edu/doran/voyager/export/ or using the Voyager's
Pmarcexport utility, and import it to Koha to stage it for mapping, do you
think that would work?

Best regards,
Ellis

Subject: Re: [Koha] Testing Koha - How to migrate data from Voyager 9 to Koha
for testing?

Hi,

I'm not sure how well the migration toolbox works out of the box, but there's
one thing worth noting anyway: The vanilla Koha doesn't support MFHD's, which
have a pretty important role in Voyager. While in many cases the relevant
information can be stored in the bibliographic or item records, we found it
necessary to implement support for holdings records in Koha. It, and the
previous attempts, haven't really gained traction, but I'm still trying. :) In
any case we're currently in the process of converting some Voyager databases to
Koha with this custom holdings support.

There's a Holdings RFC at
<https://apac01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwiki.koha-community.org%2Fwiki%2FMARC_Holdings_Records_RFC&data=02%7C01%7Celiseo.gatchalian%40wintec.ac.nz%7C0659bf4972a64a9bce7908d60bef0f7f%7C4dfb6010c24b4460a31d9fab1f5b12c2%7C0%7C0%7C636709518756644591&sdata=eYoP%2FaFSEF7JUG7CV5eZEe7e6X5Lq15CPYs4UZjZe5Y%3D&reserved=0>
and patches at
<https://apac01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbugs.koha-community.org%2Fbugzilla3%2Fshow_bug.cgi%3Fid%3D20447&data=02%7C01%7Celiseo.gatchalian%40wintec.ac.nz%7C0659bf4972a64a9bce7908d60bef0f7f%7C4dfb6010c24b4460a31d9fab1f5b12c2%7C0%7C0%7C636709518756644591&sdata=qt%2Fz8%2BIXt0AkWKmHjG5%2BByZg46bOVfHYnN5Fihc3Ft4%3D&reserved=0>.
I'll try to see if there any chance at discussing this at the KohaCon 2018 hackfest, but I'd also appreciate any
input you as another Voyager library might have.

Ere

Hi All,

Greetings! ☺ I’ve successfully installed Koha in a test virtual box and hoping
to explore more of what it can do and check/match/improve our current workflows.

I’d like to test Koha with our actual data we have from Voyager 9.0, and
wondering if anyone can point me on a direction of how to migrate our data?

I’ve done a search and found,
https://apac01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Fjcamins%2Fkoha-migration-toolbox&data=02%7C01%7Celiseo.gatchalian%40wintec.ac.nz%7C0659bf4972a64a9bce7908d60bef0f7f%7C4dfb6010c24b4460a31d9fab1f5b12c2%7C0%7C0%7C636709518756644591&sdata=9g0s0GvSbIpfWvc61Lv%2BisF1ukCmBp7moTs4pJm9YSY%3D&reserved=0
but I am not sure if this would work on the latest Koha version as it seems that last
commits was at least 4 years ago.

Also, if we are to use the koha-migration-toolbox, from its scripts, it will
extract CSV’s of all data, but I can’t seem to find in Koha on how to import
those CSV’s? Any step-by-step guide for migrating data would be very helpful?

Many thanks in advance guys… ☺

Best regards,
Ellis
