As of 17.11.05, it will work, it is not really production ready, though Gothenburg University Library already went live with it and a few patches. You can follow directives there to try it : https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Elasticsearch There is a lot of improvements in 18.05. We hope to switch to it by the end of june.
