Home › Administration › System preferences> Cataloging preferences> Record Structure > AlternateHoldingsField AlternateHoldingsSeparator - we use the 942c here. This pulls the item type (in this case Periodical article) from the 942c and displays it as holdings if there is no item record attached.
Otherwise you do get the No items available note, which isn't that helpful in the case of articles.
