Debian has 5.8.8 in the etch release, which is old enough that it no longer has security support from Debian (and therefore anyone using it really should upgrade to lenny). Lenny has 5.10.0, squeeze has 5.10.1, and Debian is working on getting 5.12 into unstable, possibly into squeeze.
