We are a new Spanish company, Xercode Media Software S.L, whose members have a wide experience in topics associated with opensource , specially KOHA ILS.
Our names are Miguel Angel Calvo and Juan F. Romay and even though we have been members of the community for some time now and have already had contact with some important members of the community, we wanted to wait until this occasion to introduce ourselves formally to the rest of the community. We first started to work with Koha in the beginning of the year 2007 when the actual version found was in alpha state. One of our main clients entrusted us in the study and introduction of ILS. After several months of developments and personalizations, we presented our work in the Fesabid 2009 where a member of the community, Biblibre , had the occasion of seeing. From that moment onwards and due to this we began our contact with the community. One of our main objectives with the creation of Xercode is to make the developments carried out available to the community. We have implemented KOHA in various Spanish Libraries and hope to increase the number of implementations throughout Spain. Once having summarized briefly our experience with Koha, we would like to continue by mentioning some of the developments carried out in 3.2 version and available in the following direction: http://github. Opinions and improvements of these developments mentioned below are welcomed and if of interest can be integrated in the official version. - Module of fines in days - Management of the facets related with the authority values - Multilanguage in the authorized values - Sending of emails in HTML with html editor - Module of hierarchical navigation - Inclusion of marking in the frameworks by default - Management of libraries and branches - Searching by type of materials - Possibility of introducing variables in the SQL report Xercode has at hand a wide number of collaborators and experienced librarians which give their opinion in order to try to obtain what should be a perfect ILS. For this idea of a perfect ILS to happen , we have a series of objectives and priorities that we consider that KOHA ILS should fulfill. We think that the main objectives necessary in a short term are the following: - Modification of the actual generation of facets. It is necessary to have all of the facets of the collection of results of a query and not of those that are visualized in the paging. Other systems, mainly through SOLR, carry this out without difficulty. Taking into account all the investigation carried out and the opinion of other members, Zebra is not the solution for the moment. Our objective, once some satisfactory tests have been carried out , is to integrate pazpar in Koha for the creation of facets and in the catalogue query. - After various tries of putting mod_perl registry and perlRun into function, all of the results show that the main problem is the ZOOM library .The rest of the system is more or less stable but not the topic of the query of the catalogue. Even though the query always reaches the library, at times results are returned and in other cases not (F5, reloading the page). We have tried to consult this topic with indexdata in various occasions but without success. If a member of the community has a solution to this topic, we would very much like to be in contact. - Relationship between Net ( all of the catalogue and its libraries) , library ( as a group of branches ) and branches of a library. I suppose that not only in Spain, there are cases in which collective catalogues exist in which in the same system various libraries formed by branches that work independently but share bibliographic registers, users...... One of the developments that we want to integrate is following this direction but due to actual needs, we have to modify some things( creation of permissions which affect the library , the whole Net , politics which affect different levels, ...) - Acquisitions module. This is one of our main objectives in the following months. We are very happy with the results of the new development of this module yet would like to give our opinion about some of the functions that in our humble opinion could improve this module. We are very pleased with this collaboration and hope that our contributions are fruitful The following domain which we acquired some time ago is available for the community : www.koha-es.org. We are willing to give support to the koha community in spanish in order to avoid what happened with some companies. We look forward to hearing your vision. kindest regards
