On my Linux Mint 19.1 Distribution it installs Kicad without the
Templates. After doing:
Mint pulls the packages mostly from Debian (and rebuild them if needed).
So you can look at the dependency graph I've created for the 5.x release
in Debian to see how the package are connected.

BTW: The package manager tells you everything about the dependencies and
recommends. ;)
