I'm not really proposing to change any icon metaphors or colours right now. The module icon is probably one of the most distinctive KiCad icons (in term of colour and form), so changes there are a whole new topic. De-emphasising the background item in overlaid icons may make sense, but then we might want to consider the other overlaid icons at the same time. What I'd really like to do first is get all icons tidy and consistent more-or-less as they are (there are just a few stragglers), and get KiCad looking good in hiDPI and dark themes. Then work on improving the metaphors and tweaking the set as whole.
