Strange thing of the day. In the footprint editor settings I customize things as desired, they persist correctly between invocations.
Choosing new footprint however reset them to the compiled-in defaults... First look impression: could it be that the 'fake board' the editor uses (and which contains the settings) is deleted and recreated without reapplying the configuration? That would probably explain the problem.
