I don't know.

My role is PCB supplier.  People send me their zipped gerbers, and I
arrange to have them made.  As useful as those other layers are, they
don't generally affect PCB production, so I ignore them, and can
afford to ignore them.

A better solution to file extensions is to have the purpose of a file
embedded in the file, and that's what the Gerber X2 extension do.
However most of the factories I use don't yet support Gerber X2.
