I noticed this while trying to port some of our designs to Kicad. We use via fields to connect high current/low impedance planes together or do thermal pads, so it's quite important for us. Somebody was proposing a patch for a similar issue there: **https://lists.launchpad.net/kicad-developers/msg07434.html.


I am also wondering if there is any interest in being able to modify
individual vias.
Sure, what I'm missing are custom pad stacks (at least different diameters on top/middle/bottom layers) and independently controlled soldermask tenting for each via.
