Did a fresh install with the 20150110 daily - which has the 3.18.0-8 kernel - and the problem seems to be fixed!

After logging back in, the brightness would not get restored. The Display Brightness slider in the Power Manager Plugin still showed full brightness, but it obviously was not. I had to click twice on the slider to restore the screen to full brightness. I then did a clean install and had the same issue. Similar to bug #1302025, but this is not due to inactivity.
