Have booted from the 14.04.1 Live DVD and examined the xorg log file.

There are no details of module "syntp" as per the above extract (found
by searching for "synaptics")

The corresponding details from the Live dvd are below.  The details from
"Ask Ubuntu" above give details of a package "Synaptiks" which no longer
exists at release 14.04.  Therefore need to remove the existing package
from my system and replace it with the relevant package for release
14.04.01.  Can someone provide the appropriate details please.  Many
