Brian Lipscomb, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Oneiric reached EOL on May 9, 2013. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
Is this an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 863034 ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863034 Title: Strange Brightness Key Behavior Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This report is for Ubuntu 11.10 Beta 2 installed cleanly on a Dell Latitude D620 with Intel integrated 950 graphics. After the screen blanks after inactivity, pressing the Fn-Brightness up key makes the brightness go up, but in a "staggered" way instead of one step at a time. If starting from a blank screen of zero brightness, then here is how it goes: First press: level 3 Second press: level 1 Third press: level 4 Fourth press: level 2 Fifth press: level 5 Sixth press: level 3 And so on until it reaches maximum brightness. I am inclined to think it is more of a Gnome 3 issue as opposed to Ubuntu specific becuase the brightness keys work fine in 11.04.
