Same here. I have an xps 13 running ubuntu 14.10. When I upgraded from 12.04 (as installed by dell) into 14.04, I had to blacklist i2c_hid. After upgrading to 14.10, i needed to remove the blacklisting, as others reported. Here is the interesting thing: I needed to blacklist two different i2c modules (but see my first note below).
#### me@myxps:~$ grep i2c /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf # blacklist i2c_hid # blacklist i2c_i801 #### A few notes: * when dealing kernel settings in laptops, I find that it's often the case that it's better to shut down and power cycle, instead of restarting. It seems like the BIOS doesn't quite get the hardware reset on a restart. * Joseph: when testing upstream, what's the expected/desired behavior? It seems like 14.10 is already working ok for most users. It seems to me that the blacklisting was a workaround in 14.04, not needed anymore. Or are you asking those who still have issues after de-blacklisting i2c_hic ? To those folks, I suggest trying a full shutdown and remove the power chord, and perhaps also removing the blacklist for i2c_i801 and see if that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1386077 Title: [Dell XPS 13 9333] Touchpad not detected on Ubuntu 14.10 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The touchpad was working properly on Ubuntu 14.04 but it's not recognized as a device after upgrade to 14.10. cat /proc/bus/input/devices: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1386077/+attachment/4246505/+files/log.txt ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: linux-image-3.16.0-23-generic 3.16.0-23.31 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-23.31-generic 3.16.4 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-23-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: alberto 2756 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: alberto 2756 F.... pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Mon Oct 27 09:25:22 2014 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=c74a6005-0636-4344-b099-c1af92d5acf9 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-06-07 (141 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 "Precise" - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20130822-08:48 MachineType: Dell Inc.
