But it then loses connection with eth0 sometime shortly afterwards. /var/log/syslog shows the following: May 27 21:26:24 kernel: [ 38.244015] tg3 0000:01:00.0: vpd r/w failed. This is likely a firmware bug on this device. Contact the card vendor for a firmware update. The installation continues and completes, but hangs periodically whenever the installation process attempts to access the network. After rebooting the network devices work fine.
