I've moved this bug to the udftools project, as I suspect it may be an
issue with that package interacting with apparmor, based on the lines
you sent in your most recent message:

>  [   34.919704] audit: type=1400 audit(1739919236.502:288):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="mknod" class="file" profile="/usr/bin/wsdd"
name="/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/defusedxml/__pycache__/__init__.cpython-313.pyc.124069992405296"
pid=4943 comm="python3" requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000
ouid=1000

If possible, try to find the most recent version of the kernel/packages
that this worked, which will give you a starting point on finding the
version which broke things. The maintainers of udftools should be able
to help more or point you in the right direction.

Bug description:
  When plugging in my DELL External USB DVDRW DW316 drive to a usb port while
"tailing" syslog the following appeared:

  This drive was working fine a few days ago, when I wrote files to a
  (blank) DVD running under Ubuntu 24.10 . Now, in trying to write files
  to either blank CD-R or blank DVD discs, the drive does not mount. I
  am running a dual boot Ubuntu 24.10 and Windows 11. I rebooted into
  Windows, and the drive worked fine, allowing me to write to a blank
  CD-R disk. Rebooting back into Ubuntu, I was able to read the drive I
  had just written under Windows. The only things I can think of that
  might have caused a problem are updates in the last few days, or
  possibly installing and using mkusb & dus (24.1.1) to restore a thumb
  drive that was in ReadOnly mode (successfully) to a "Standard storage
  device" that I could write to.

  I have noticed lots of Notifications related to a recent update of
  apparmor, which as others have noted, tend to disappear before they
  can be read. And while I appreciate the offer to allow users "more
  control over their security", this should not be construed to mean
  "make users figure it out and make them take control". I do not know
  if the problem is somehow related or not.
