With the new image linux-image-5.4.0-84-generic Ubuntu starts very slow, with very high GPU use and the gnome login window actually never comes up. (The colored screen comes up after some time, but stays without name etc.) If I switch to the console, this is inundated by the message: pcieport 0000:00:1d.3: pciehp: Failed to check link status This makes the console unusable too. In the kernel log I find two more lines which might be relevant: pcieport 0000:00:1d.3: Data Link Layer Link Active not set in 1000 msec pcieport 0000:00:1d.3: pciehp: Failed to check link status pcieport 0000:00:1d.3: pciehp: Slot(11): Card present I have Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS. The relevant package might be linux-image-5.4.0-84-generic (5.4.0-84.94), but it could also be linux-modules-5.4.0-84-generic (5.4.0-84.94) or linux-modules-extra-5.4.0-84-generic (5.4.0-84.94). --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.18 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: a 2004 F.... pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-08-10 (1126 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 004: ID 138a:003f Validity Sensors, Inc.
