Public bug reported:

Problem:
The battery is not being detected in Ubuntu 22.04. The /proc/acpi/battery/
directory does not exist, and tools like upower and acpi fail to provide
battery information. Additionally, no ACPI events are detected when plugging or
unplugging the charger.

Steps to Reproduce:

Boot into Ubuntu 22.04.
Check /proc/acpi/battery/ – directory is missing.
Run upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT0 – outputs unknown or
(null) for all fields.
Run acpi_listen – no output is generated when connecting or disconnecting the
charger.
Expected Behavior:
The system should detect the battery, and tools like upower or
/proc/acpi/battery/ should provide accurate battery information. ACPI events
should also be triggered when the power state changes.

Observed Behavior:
The battery is not detected. The /proc/acpi/battery/ directory is missing,
upower outputs unknown, and no ACPI events are logged.

System Details:

Distro/Version: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-49-generic
Laptop Model: HP G8 255
What I Have Tried:

Verified ACPI services (acpid) are running.
Manually loaded the battery module using modprobe battery.
Checked for battery-related kernel logs using dmesg | grep -i battery.
Verified with lsmod that ACPI-related modules are loaded.
Ran journalctl -xe | grep -i battery – no relevant errors found.
Rebooted and tested the issue on the same kernel.
