Actually I think I might have deleted the `6.8.0-47-generic` directory
myself when I had hard disk space issues while running an LLM
experiment, which means this is not a bug.  (The modules directory was
large and I thought it was no longer used because the kernel was then
6.8.0-48, but I should have removed the packages properly rather than
going wild with `sudo ncdu`.)

Now cleaned up with:

    sudo mkdir -p /lib/modules/6.8.0-47-generic/kernel/nvidia-550/bits
    sudo touch /lib/modules/6.8.0-47-generic/kernel/nvidia-550/bits/CLEAN
    sudo apt --purge remove $(dpkg -l | grep ^ii.*6.8.0.47|sed -e 's/.. *//' -e 
's/ .*//')
    sudo rm -rf /lib/modules/6.8.0-47-generic
