Public bug reported: I upgraded releases from 24.04 to 24.10 and found that my sound was not working anymore. My previous sound outputs go away and all I see is Dummy Output. After a long time debugging I tracked it to the package alsa-ucm-conf. By installing an older version of the package my sounds works again (after a pipewire restart)
* alsa-ucm-conf_1.2.10-1ubuntu5_all.deb (audio works) * alsa-ucm-conf_1.2.10-1ubuntu5.1_all.deb (NO SOUND OUTPUTS) * alsa-ucm-conf_1.2.10-1ubuntu6_all.deb (NO SOUND OUTPUTS) Looking at the pipewire logs was of limited use, it basically opened the devices and then closed them. I tried installing pulseaudio instead of pipewire, but then I still got initialization failure for the sound devices. I tried playing directly using aplay and speaker-test, all of which work on 24.04, but not on 24.10. This got me to thinking it is either drivers or base ALSA, so I tested out loading the newer alsa packages on 24.04 and as soon as I loaded the new alsa-ucm-conf it failed in the same way. Loading it back to the original version fixed it, and so I loaded the 1.2.10-1ubuntu5 version on 24.10 and my sound suddenly works again :-). === More info === lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 24.10 Release: 24.10 apt-cache policy alsa-ucm-conf alsa-ucm-conf: Installed: 1.2.10-1ubuntu6 Candidate: 1.2.10-1ubuntu6 Version table: *** 1.2.10-1ubuntu6 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu oracular/main amd64 Packages 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu oracular/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status !!DMI Information !!--------------- Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
