I think it's because a lot of automated tests are run on the device, and one of them upgrades the system packages. However, 5.4.0-195 is used initially to test, and this is where the issue was found. When I ran `ubuntu-bug linux`, linux-hwe-5.15 was installed. But the journalctl logs I provide are from a previous boot, where 5.4 is used.
However, after chatting with Anthony Wong, it seems this might not be related to the kernel, but to the linux-firmware package. (Not sure on this one, I will let the experts decide!) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-signed-hwe-5.15 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2077579 Title: Potential regression: Microcode SW error detected in linux 5.4.0.195.193 Status in linux-signed-hwe-5.15 package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: As part of SRU testing in our HW lab, we are running Checkbox SRU test plan on devices, including this one: https://certification.canonical.com/hardware/202001-27665/submission/387585/ (Dell Precision 5550) This artefact is part of SRU testing visible here: https://test-observer.canonical.com/#/debs/52784 The test case `wireless/check_iwlwifi_microcode_crash_wlp0s20f3` fails with the following output: ``` Boot -2 c8ba8c3ef8d54d2fb531e1683b5079a6 Tue 2024-08-20 06:05:01 EDT—Tue 2024-08-20 06:25:01 EDT, Microcode SW error detected ``` I've connected to that device and extracted the full kernel log using `sudo journalctl -k -b-2`; it's attached to this issue.
