Title:
  (24.04) GPU-HANG (and possible kernel panic?) with Intel/Arrandale GPU

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  This bug seems to affect kernels "6.8.0-31-generic",
  "6.8.0-38-generic", and "6.9.0-0906000-generic". Every single time I
  try to log into Xorg (Cinnamon DE + LightDM greeter), the computer
  freezes within seconds. IDK whether there is a kernel panic or not, as
  I can't do anything with the system. The magic-sysrq keys don't even
  work, so I must hold the power button down. This seems like a GPU
  problem, since it can be worked around via the "nomodeset" boot
  paramater.

  Running "sudo dmesg -w" just before the crash (via ssh) revealed this:
      i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 5:1:020fffff, in Xorg [2197]

  My system was completely unusable after that.

  This does not affect the "6-5.0-35-generic" kernel left over from when
  the system was running 22.04. That's what I'm running right now as I
  type this bug report.

  Please note: I just spent the last five minutes trying to figure out
  how to use the "apport-bug" command. Dare I say, the man page wasn't
  helpful at all. If I give the following params: "sudo apport-bug
  linux-image-6.8.0-38-generic", then I get the following error multi-
  line error:

    "*** Problem in linux-image-6.8.0-38-generic

    The problem cannot be reported:

    This does not seem to be an official Linux package.
    Please retry after updating the indexes of available packages, if that does
not work then remove related third party packages and try again."

  Likewise for the "linux-6.5.0-35-generic" kernel, which give me a
  similar error, but with a the 6.5 kernel instead. I also tried just
  using "linux", same result, so if you want an apport bug report,
  you'll have to tell me what I'm doing wrong.

  My "/proc/cmdline" file:

      BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-6.5.0-35-generic
  root=UUID=f859df91-6f6c-42ac-90aa-71fadcf2aa7e ro quiet splash

  HW Specs (via "sudo lshw") will be attached.
