This has broken a test environment that runs CI installations via MAAS
provisioning the baremetals for the tests. I could revert the kernel on the
MAAS node but all the other nodes that are automatically installed using latest
images are much more complicated to control and force old kernels.

All nodes are using this same usb adapter, multiple adapters per node.

Title:
Incorrect MAC address on ax88179_178a USB Ethernet adapter

Status in linux-hwe-6.5 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Starting with linux-image-6.5.0-41-generic, my AX88179 Ethernet
adapter (ax88179_178a driver) changed its MAC address to a completely
different one that has the "locally administered" bit set.

I believe this is caused by this backport:
  https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-

kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/jammy/commit/?h=hwe-6.5-next&id=3c860cd9296f00ef68c43f78ee3a4533d9ba5a1b

linux-stable has the following fixup that is currently missing from
  Ubuntu's hwe-6.5:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-6.9.y&id=56f78615bcb1c3ba58a5d9911bad3d9185cf141b

  Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
  Package: linux-image-6.5.0-41-generic 6.5.0-41.41~22.04.2
