The workaround I have discovered to get back is to enter the gdm from "Ctrl + alt + F1" and then return to the session you were in (normally, "Ctrl + alt + F2). Edit: It happens when I connect a second monitor and use it as the primary display while the laptop screen is disabled. MSI laptop.
