It would be good to see if this problem comes back, like it did for you in the past. If it does not, it would be helpful if you can boot back into the latest Ubuntu kernel, and apply the updates to see if the fix upstream made it into the stable kernel. If it did not, we can perform a reverse kernel bisect to find the fix upstream.
