Joseph, I was able to (on my Dell XPS 18 touch) use Windows 8.1 to reduce/shrink the WIndows OS partition, and give me space to install Ubuntu Saucy 13.10 on the local disk so that I could add the .deb upstream updated kernel and reboot to it. Here's the kernel it's running (below):
@ubuntusaucy:~$ uname -a Linux ubuntusaucy 3.11.10-03111006-generic #201403120635 SMP Wed Mar 12 10:35:55 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux However, this unfortunetly did NOT allow the Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy version with this latest upstream kernel to enable touchscreen on the Dell XPS 18. So no go. In fact, while using it, Unity locked up and rebooted itself several times. I do not think that happened with Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty which worked great, touchscreen and all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1205494 Title: [Dell XPS 18] Touch screen not functioning under Ubuntu 13.04 13.10 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “linux” source package in Saucy: Incomplete Status in “linux” source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: I ran `ubuntu-bug linux` from Ubuntu 13.04 terminal session, and it appeared to have uploaded the information successfully.
