Title:
package linux-image-5.15.0-50-generic (not installed) failed to
  install/upgrade: installed linux-image-5.15.0-50-generic package pre-
removal script subprocess returned error exit status 1

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The latest kernel linux-image-5.15.0-50 had broken my nvidia display driver.
(Display simply stopped giving any HDMI signals a few seconds after the grub
stage.)
I confirmed this by trying to freshly install nvidia drivers on kernel
5.15.0-50 and failed to rectify the problem.
However, kernel 5.15.0-48 booted just fine.
So first I removed all nvidia packages from the system.
Then I removed the troubling kernel (linux-image-5.15.0-50).
Then rebooted the system (it rebooted to black screen and blinking cursor)
Then I logged in on console VT-3.
Then I installed nvidia drivers using ubuntu-drivers install command.
Then I rebooted the system (Booted fine)
Then I was updating the system with sudo apt -y update; sudo apt upgrade.
I was reported that update was available for various nvidia packages.
I typed 'y' to go ahead with the upgrade.
  Then I received this error.
