Installing version 20.04 would get me stuck with the previous version of apps and libraries, and that would be more annoying that dealing with the bug (since it usually doesn't occur, and when it occurs it usually just require a system restart. Also, I replaced the Nvidia driver with nouveau since more than one year, and this specific bug occurred only in the last two months, so in general nouveau worked well for me (although it hanged on some web games). In some aspects, nouveau worked even better than the proprietary driver (for example, it allowed to use the text mode framebuffer at high resolution, while the proprietary driver didn't, it worked only for the xwindow mode)
Last but not least: when booting from CD only nouveau driver is available anyway. So, as long as it's possible, I will wait for a fix: I am aware it might not come soon, but it would never come if no one reports the bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-hwe-5.15 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1983108 Title: [nouveau] watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for ...
