Per the dmesg output, your touchpad should connect via i8042 interface and
seems detected.
[ 0.549357] serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1
[ 0.549493] mousedev: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
Does the suspend/resume makes any difference?

If not, you can go back to BIOS menu and change the BIOS setting from
"Basic mode" to "Advanced mode", then boot into Ubuntu to see if it's
detected or not. Please also paste the dmesg output here for the Advance
mode. Thanks.

Title:
  No Touchpad on TravelMate-P2 laptop

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
On the TravelMate P215-53 V1.10 by Acer when running Ubuntu, the
trackpad is entirely non-functional and does not appear in the
/proc/bus/input/devices list. A wired usb mouse works perfectly, but
there does not seem to be a tweak that enables the trackpad to be seen
  by the kernel.
