Public bug reported: Since focal a casual unprivileged user cannot save the current X Server Display Configuration, no matter which location is used. I.e. even for e.g. /tmp/xorg.conf or /home/$LOGNAME/xorg.conf the user gets asked for the root password.
This really stupid '"AUTHENTICATING FOR com.ubuntu.screen-resolution- extra.root-display" "Authenticating as: root"' bug needs to be fixed. An unprivileged user should be able to store the config wherever he wants to, as long as he has write permission for the related file/directory. ** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: nvidia-settings-updates (Ubuntu) => nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926845 Title: Unable to store nvidia-settings Status in nvidia-settings package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since focal a casual unprivileged user cannot save the current X Server Display Configuration, no matter which location is used.
