Public bug reported: If I remember correctly the touchpad was already not responding when booting into Ubuntu from USB stick.
I followed the guidline https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#generalinfo. Unfortunately, I have not found the manufacturer of the touchpad. In the cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/devices output I could not find any 'touchpad' entry. Output file 'devices' is attached.
