In the issue reported upstream it was concluded not to be a fwupd
problem, nor a WD19TB problem. The same issue occurs trying to read the
NVM from the host. So kernel issue TBT FW issue, or HW issue.

Bug description:
I'm running 20.04 and got the alert there was a FW update pending, so
I ran it but it's failing:
➜ sudo fwupdmgr update --force -y

could not start thunderbolt device upgrade: could not write to
'nvm_authenticate': Input/output error
I have also logged this against upstream fwupd, but haven't got
anywhere as yet (good for reference though):
