OK, bad news then... This appears to be a kernel/hardware bug unique to your laptop. It's pretty rare but I have also seen it before on Lenovo X230s (I think).
Next I suggest trying a live boot of Ubuntu 20.04: https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04/ or just trying newer kernels: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D to see if a fix has already been released for this issue. ** Summary changed: - Grid-like cursor movement on touchpad + [Toshiba Portege R830] Grid-like cursor movement on touchpad ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886977 Title: [Toshiba Portege R830] Grid-like cursor movement on touchpad Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Moving cursor using touchpad goes in zigzag pattern, when moving diagonally.
