Hi again Juerg and all, I want to mention that upstream Linux developers actually *do* care about ABI stability.

For applications that want to know information about CPUs, the only alternative is using libcpufreq. However that library is abandoned both upstream and in Debian, and recently I have seen it returning junk data.
