Johannes Langlotz, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

Kernel 2.6.32-18 or older and the mainline kernels handle a closed laptop lid like a disconnected LVDS display. Since kernel 2.6.32-19 lucid boots up with a wrong diplay resolution because both displays a switched on even if the lid is closed. The displays are mirrored and switched to 1152x864 instead of their native resolutions.
