You have been subscribed to a public bug: Xorg shows a black screen and drops back to a command prompt when booting with linux-image-3.5.0-19-generic
Xorg works fine with linux-image-3.5.0-17-generic. FYI, I'm using the following command in /etc/rc.local and cron to turn on the backlight: /usr/bin/setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=20>/dev/null ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-17.28-generic 3.5.5 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core,composite,opengl,compiztoolbox,decor,vpswitch,snap,mousepoll,resize,place,move,wall,grid,regex,imgpng,session,gnomecompat,animation,fade,unitymtgrabhandles,workarounds,scale,expo,ezoom,unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Mon Dec 10 18:57:41 2012 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: quantal DistroVariant: ubuntu EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:020e] Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:020e] InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-12-07 (3 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MachineType: Gateway NV78 MarkForUpload: True ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.5.0-17-generic root=UUID=47bd4fd4-e732-4a60-b2f1-d650492daa3f ro rootflags=subvol=@ quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display Title: Xorg crash UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 09/29/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: Gateway dmi.bios.version: V2.07 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: NV78 dmi.board.vendor: Gateway dmi.board.version: V2.07 dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Gateway dmi.chassis.version: V2.07 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnGateway:bvrV2.07:bd09/29/2009:svnGateway:pnNV78:pvrV2.07:rvnGateway:rnNV78:rvrV2.07:cvnGateway:ct10:cvrV2.07: dmi.product.name: NV78 dmi.product.version: V2.07 dmi.sys.vendor: Gateway version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.8.4+bzr3412-0ubuntu0.1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.39-0ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 9.0-0ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 9.0-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.3-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.99.99~git20120913.8637f772-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.9-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu3 ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Incomplete ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bios-outdated-2.11 compiz-0.9 crash quantal regression-release running-unity ubuntu -- Xorg doesn't start with linux-image-3.5.0-19-generic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1088729 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
