It's not a kernel bug. The nvidia driver keeps the contents of the GRUB
screen and the first two lines of kernel log visible as a frozen static
picture.

Deinstall and reinstall of nvidia drivers fixed the issue.

Title:
  5.0.0 kernels (5.0.0-7 and 5.0.0-8) don't boot

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
System runs fine with previous kernel 4.19.0-13-generic. On kernels
5.0.0-7 and 5.0.0-8, system freezes after GRUB screen on the
  background picture.

Note: The attached logs are done with kernel 4.19.0-13-generic, since
the kernels in question don't even boot and give no chance to catch a
  log.
