Testing with kernel v2.6.39.4 from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.39.4-oneiric/
The problem does not occur. 'udevadm monitor' reports events for USB storage devices inserted into and removed from both ports. Testing with kernel v3.0 from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0-oneiric/ The problem is back. 'udevadm montitor' only reports events for storage devices plugged into the USB 3.0 port. No events are observed for devices plugged into and removed from the USB 2.0 port. Joseph, these kernels were applied to the saucy distribution installed. Did you want testing done against an earlier distribution and If so will running a live CD image be sufficient? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1253182 Title: [Sony VAIO SVT1313V1ES] USB 2.0 port not working Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The Sony VAIO SVT1313V1ES laptop has a single USB 2.0 port and a single USB 3.0 port. Tested booting Saucy as a live image on a USB device. When booting the live image, if the USB device is in the USB 2.0 port the boot process will proceed past GRUB. Switching the USB device to the USB 3.0 port will allow the boot to proceed to the desktop. Tested with Saucy installed to disk. Tested with amd64 kernel from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.12-saucy/ Events were monitored using the 'udevadm monitor' command. In all cases inserting and removing a variety of USB 2.0 storage devices into the USB 2.0 port did not result in any events. Plugging same devices into the USB 3.0 port generated events.
