I'm having significant problems with LibreOffice Write with kernel
4.4.0-66, but not with 64. The program won't allow text to be
highlighted and locks up one core of my CPU. A graceful shutdown of
Write is not allowed and even Ubuntu won't shut down without a manual
switch off.

Am also having problems with iPhone tethering stability lately, but they
show up in kernel 64 and even 57, so they may be unrelated to these 66
kernel problems.

Like the OP my system is an Asus, laptop quad-core.

PLMK whether more info is needed to help fix this. Otherwise I'll do
the next kernel upgrade and check for improvements.

Title:
Upgrade to kernel version 4.4.0-66 of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS caused major
  chaos/failures

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux source package in Xenial:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The most obvious issue upon logging in was that there were no network
interfaces save the loopback.
A review of the logs suggested there were many major problems with the
upgrade.

Interestingly, the system suggested that I delete all other versions
of the kernel immediately after this failed upgrade. This would have
  rendered the system nearly unusable.

This is not the user experience I was thinking of when I chose an LTS
  version.
