Public bug reported:

>touchpad on Dell XPS13 9360 stops working.
I have default ubuntu 16.04 installation (it's a project sputnik laptop) with
4.4.0-64-generic kernel.
In syslog I have

Feb 28 18:58:08 adept-XPS-13-9360 kernel: [53224.345941] i2c_designware
i2c_designware.1: controller timed out
Feb 28 18:58:08 adept-XPS-13-9360 kernel: [53224.371539] i2c_designware
i2c_designware.1: timeout in disabling adapter
Feb 28 18:58:10 adept-XPS-13-9360 kernel: [53226.032735] i2c_designware
i2c_designware.1: timeout in disabling adapter

Usually I fix it by reboot or:
rmmod i2c_designware_platform
rmmod i2c_designware_core
modprobe i2c_designware_core
modprobe i2c_designware_platform
