Fix released in zesty, please post a patch if you want it to be fixed in Xenial too (or wait for the next kernel update, I think the next one will be to 4.8)

Upgrading to kernel 4.8.0-32 through xenial-updates does not fix the problem, instead the system hangs after a few seconds of showing the login screen in VESA mode. Mainline kernels 4.9.0-040900, 4.10.0-041000rc3 and 4.10.0-041000rc4 work as expected.
