CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY_PAGESPAN is disabled in the Kernel PPA builds of the 4.7.1 kernel. That kernel does not boot for me. So in jmy case setting that to no will not fix it.

The new 4.8 kernel seemed to take ages to boot and appears to have hanged. I have managed to boot the system with the older 4.4 kernels from 16.04 just fine without any problems from systemd etc..
