sanctimon, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number> Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily kernel folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12-rc1 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Incomplete ** Attachment removed: "Output of "sudo dmidecode"" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575296/+attachment/1439434/+files/dmidecode.txt ** Attachment removed: "dmesg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575296/+attachment/1422112/+files/dmesg ** Attachment removed: "dmidecode obtained with Lucid-amd64" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575296/+attachment/1417516/+files/dmidecode-lucid ** Attachment removed: "dmidecode for ASUS M2N-E with Athlon64 X2" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575296/+attachment/1417457/+files/dmidecode ** Attachment removed: "kern.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575296/+attachment/1377090/+files/kern.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575296 Title: Ubuntu boot delay - nForce error Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After selecting Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit fresh installation) in GRUB, it takes approximately 40 seconds for Ubuntu to start booting up. The screen remains completely blank and there is no Hard Disk activity. Only after this period of time does the system actively boot up, with a flashing cursor at first and then, just before the splash appears, there are three error messages (sometimes just one is visible): May 3 18:16:23 GANDALF-PC kernel: [ 9.356766] ACPI: resource nForce2_smbus [0x1c00-0x1c3f] conflicts with ACPI region SM00 [0x1c00-0x1c05] May 3 18:16:23 GANDALF-PC kernel: [ 9.356769] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver May 3 18:16:23 GANDALF-PC kernel: [ 9.356771] nForce2_smbus 0000:00:0a.1: Error probing SMB1. This is similar to bug #440470 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/linux/+bug/440470) reported for Karmic. I cannot say with any certainty whether it is these errors that are causing the long delay at boot, but they could well be. I have attached the kern.log and also intend to attach a video showing the boot sequence to this bug. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further details.
