I got i686 when I used the following command
madhu@madhu-desktop:~$ uname -mrsn
Linux madhu-desktop 4.4.0-21-generic i686
madhu@madhu-desktop:~$ dpkg --list | grep linux-image
ii linux-image-4.4.0-21-generic 4.4.0-21.37
i386 Linux kernel image for version 4.4.0 on 32
bit x86 SMP
ii linux-image-extra-4.4.0-21-generic 4.4.0-21.37
i386 Linux kernel extra modules for version
4.4.0 on 32 bit x86 SMP
