using xubuntu xenial, today's update

at boot msg on screen: sdb2 clean xxxxx files xxxxx/xxxxx blocks

this msg blinked once then was static

logged on with ctrl-alt-f1, could not apport-collect... due to missing sw
could not sudo (this had been successful at times there),
could startx but could not move "solid cursor" to select session (previously i
was able to do so as no choice presented)

thus we are nowhere as to this system76 KUDO laptop

I wil try again using ubuntu-64 which i installed last week on another sda2
willl be back later

NOTE: i am using (2) ssd's on laptop, i (actually my wife) have 3 other
laptops with ubuntu (one system76), i might try them laterl if necessary
however it may be sys76 specific - i am very annoyed that i need
specific stuff from them and did install such earlier to no avail on
prior testsl with same results.
