Title: Unable to disable SMART for Corsair Neutron GTX SSD Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: During every boot sequence, SMART commands are sent to this SSD, causing a minute long hang, until a kernel error message appears, telling me that some SMART command failed. Since SSDs are not the target audience for SMART checks anyway, I wanted to disable smart checks through gnome-disk tool. When I tried to disable SMART for this disk, I got the following error message: =============================================================================================== Error sending ATA command SMART, sub-command DISABLE OPERATIONS: ATA command failed: error=0x04 count=0x00 status=0x51 (g-io-error-quark,0) =============================================================================================== After closing the error dialog, SMART switch in the window is turned back on :( All I wanted was disable SMART checks during boot time for this disk .... The kernel message (taken from dmesg output) regarding SMART and the SSD at boot time is as follows: =============================================================================================== [ 101.743095] ata4.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0 [ 101.743144] ata4.00: failed command: SMART [ 101.743189] ata4.00: cmd b0/d5:01:06:4f:c2/00:00:00:00:00/00 tag 0 pio 512 in res 51/10:00:00:4f:c2/00:00:00:00:00/e0 Emask 0x81 (invalid argument) [ 101.743246] ata4.00: status: { DRDY ERR } [ 101.743288] ata4.00: error: { IDNF } =============================================================================================== ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 Package: gnome-disk-utility 3.14.0-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-28.30-generic 3.19.8-ckt5 Uname: Linux 3.19.0-28-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Fri Sep 25 14:53:50 2015 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-09-25 (1094 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120423) SourcePackage: gnome-disk-utility UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to vivid on 2015-09-16 (9 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1499726/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
